Evening the Numbers for 2025 Old School vs New Tech Competition

I think everyone who attended last Saturday’s Central Texas Treasure Club’s Old School vs New Tech Competition had fun.  The only complaint I heard was that we need to even out the numbers on each team.  As in recent years, the New Tech Team greatly outnumbered our Old School Team.  This year, it was 13-5 in favor of NT.  As a result, I’ve come up with a couple of ways to do this.  One is that we limit each team to 8 or 10 members.  To do that, we need more members to acquire discontinued vintage detectors that are 25 years old or older, learn to master them, and commit to join the Old School Team at the 2025 Competition.  The other part of the solution is the add a qualifier to members wanting to detect on the New Tech Team next year.  We will need to get firm commitments signed up by August, 2025 regarding those who will be participating and which Team you want to be on.  Those who want to be on the New Tech Team will need to qualify by getting enough total points in next year’s Finds of the Month Contests for September, October, and November to make the 8 or 10 person NT roster.  This will also increase participation in next year’s Finds of the Month Contest for our  2025 CTTC Treasure Hunter of the Year award.

So, no matter which Team you want to be on next November, we all have work to do!   Using a vintage detector successfully is certainly not as easy as many newbies want you to believe.  You don’t just “turn them on and go.”  It takes many hours to master using one, just as it does to master using a new model.

2024 CTTC Old School vs New Tech Competition - Saturday, November 23rd!

Annual Central Texas Treasure Club's 2024 Old School vs New Tech Competition Saturday, November 23rd! This is a dues-paid Members Only Event.
I created this annual Competition in 2018 when I was first elected Club President. It's been a big and fun success! The rules are simple. We divide into 2 Teams when we get to the secret hunt location, depending on the detector each Member is using that day. The Old School Team will use only vintage metal detectors that are at least 25 years old and are discontinued models. The New Tech Team will use modern detectors (any detector less than 25 years old).
Hunters need to be at Pat Coursey Park, at the corner of Center Avenue and East Baker Street in downtown Brownwood, BY 10:00 a.m. I will then give the location of the hunt site and we'll leave for the destination about 10:10. The hunt will last for 90 minutes. The standings for the past 6 years are: New Tech - 4 wins, Old School - 1 win, and 1 draw.
Join the Fun!

Our 2024 CTTC Open Hunt was Amazing!

Yesterday's CTTC Open Hunt was as near perfect as it could be! 97 Entrants and I believe everyone left happy...again. Our new Hunt Site, on the historical site of World War II Camp Bowie in Brownwood, was a BIG HIT. Some hunters even found some WW II Camp Bowie relics to take home with them.  Please check out our Central Texas Treasure Club Facebook page for reviews and photos.

Thank you to all who made this possible!

Annual Seeded Hunt
📍📍NEW LOCATION 📍📍
October 12th, Brownwood Tx
We will go over the rules the day of the hunt, but they are pretty much common sense rules. This is a no frills, low entry fee hunt.
If you find one token, you’ll get your fee back in prizes. Last year we seeded about 120 tokens. Some prizes are valued at several hundred dollars.
⭐️Date of Hunt: October 12th, 2024
⭐️Where: NEW LOCATION - Camp Bowie Memorial Park- Brownwood Texas
⭐️Registration: Begins at 9:00 AM
⭐️Hunt: 10:00-11:00 AM
⭐️Cost: $25 to hunt
⭐️Raffle: We’ll sell tickets for our gold coin raffle so bring some extra cash. They are $5 each or 5 for $20.
⭐️We will also have raffles for other great items
✔️Bring a chair as seating is limited.
✔️Some refreshments will be available (drinks & snacks)
✔️Bathrooms are onsite.
✔️Have fun!!
☔️This hunt will go on rain or shine. Bring a raincoat and a jacket just in case. If severe weather happens, we’ll wait it out and then proceed with the hunt.
🪙Tokens: The prize tokens are stamped and painted a certain color. The tokens this year will be stamped modern quarters, nickels and copper pennies. This will slow down the hunt and help even out the playing field.
There should be over 100 tokens buried.
Rules:
🔷Hunt will start at 10:00 AM sharp so don’t be late as we won’t wait on you.
🔷No digging shovels permitted. Handheld diggers, screwdrivers, trowels, etc are allowed. Coins will be just under the surface.
🔷Cover all holes and pick up any trash. Failure to do so could result in a ban for future club hunts.
🔷Headphones are recommended, but not required
🔷If you want to help seed the coins, show up about 8. We always need volunteers.
Additional rules may be announced at the hunt
Hunt Area:
🚩The hunt area will have a flagged perimeter. The coins will be buried the morning of the hunt by volunteers. We will section off the hunt area to divide the coins up evenly. If a volunteer is hunting, they cannot start hunting in the section they seeded and will have to wait until a set amount of time has passed before checking that area.
🪙Prize Tokens: I will personally seed the prize tokens equally among the sections, as I will not be hunting. Myself along with several non hunting volunteers will randomly draw numbers to give each prize a number.
At the conclusion of the hunt, we’ll all meet at the memorial to hand out prizes and the gold coins.
This is by no means a perfect hunt, and we are human. So any issues that arise during the hunt will be dealt with through the club members. We appreciate your understanding.
Get familiar with your detector as this hunt is about speed. You don’t want to have unexpected issues with your detector the morning of the hunt.
And most of all, enjoy the hunt and mingle with the other hunters.
Thank you to everyone who has already signed up, plans to sign up, bought raffle tickets and sponsored our hunt. Without all of your support, we could not hold this hunt.

Hunt Prize Sponsorship in Honor of James T. King

I’d like to donate this item as a hunt prize for the upcoming hunt on Oct 12. It’s a Chevrolet Centennial silver round #40 of 100 in memory of my dad James T King 1934-1999. He was my metal detecting buddy.
